Give your older Hi-Fi new life with Raspberry Pi!

Updated: Oct 9, 2021

A bit different to my normal today! This is how I gave an older Hi-Fi new life with modern day bluetooth. It really is simple as Pi!

All you need is:

  • A Raspberry Pi which supports bluetooth and RaspberryPi OS

  • A power supply for the Pi

  • An AUX chord.

I followed this tutorial on instructables (click button)

It is an older tutorial but it still holds up very well!

I found that some of the times you'd have to enter Nano in terminal to edit a file, there wouldn't be any text like the tutorial describes, just add the code they say should be there and you'll be okay!

Also, sometimes sound wouldn't output off the Pi. I just forced the sound to exit through the AUX port. This is quite simple and only takes a minute through terminal.

Also, an easy way to disconnect or add devices is through the Bluetooth menu bar add-on If you are using a display. This is very simple to add if you haven't already got it on your bar!

Here's how you do it:

After you copy the tutorial out all you need to do to connect it to your speaker is to plug in the headphones jack of the Pi into your speaker!

That's it! Hopefully you should now have brought some new life back into your old speaker!
